Cayman National is proud and excited to partner with the Botanic Park on its Children’s Garden project. The Botanic Park’s General Manager John Lawrus met with the Cayman National Marketing team and Bank President, Mr. Ormond A. Williams for a site visit in July 2017 with a presentation on the overall project plan and vision and after seeing the potential in what was just a cleared piece of land at the time, Cayman National was compelled to support the project with a significant donation towards constructing the Water Play Zone feature of the Children’s Garden.

“As a long-standing supporter of the Botanic Park, having contributed to the development of the Orchid Board Walk in the past, Cayman National is again delighted to partner with the Botanic Park in their Children’s Garden project.  We believe that the Water Play Zone will be an exciting place for children to gather for fun, cool down and to celebrate friendship,” says Mr. Ormond A. Williams, President of Cayman National Bank.

The Children’s Garden, designed for children ages 2-14 years old, will be an educational garden for fun and other activities that stimulate the mind and are educational at the same time. In addition to the Water Play Zone, the Children’s Garden will feature an education area, open play area with a tree house, sensory garden, grow zone, an environmental zone and mini ecosystems,  with the focus of educating our youth on nature play,  earth sciences, the importance of plants and insects while stressing the importance of preservation and conservation.  This holistic approach to learning is underpinned by the mission of the Botanic Park to focus on recreation, education with a strong sense of conservation.

“Mr. Lawrus painted a vivid picture of what the Children’s Garden would be like and the value it would add to our community, during the site visit. We could envision what the different areas would be like, the value of our children learning firsthand through unique encounters and experiences which would stimulate their imagination with creative thoughts. It was that moment we knew that this was something that Cayman National had to be a part of. We have every confidence that the Water Play Zone will be an area where children will come together, splash around after their learning excursions in  the other facets of the garden ”, says Shari Welcome, Marketing Manager.

The garden has received tremendous support from the community and hopes that fundraising efforts continue to be positive. Cayman National looks forward to the completion of the Children’s Garden and can’t wait to see the amazing outcome of the Children’s Garden at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. We encourage other businesses from the private sector to offer their support.  “The Botanic Park must be congratulated for developing the Children’s Garden which not only draws people to the Eastern District but also provides another venue for children to learn, have fun and interact freely with nature in a quiet environment,” commented Mr. Williams.

“The completion of the Children’s Garden will further assist in the diversification of the Botanic Park and represents the continued development of the original master plan which was created in 1994.  The impact will be three-fold firstly, increased visitation to the Park, secondly, by providing a purpose built garden which focuses on the education of our youth and thirdly, by providing and improving our social awareness of the importance of the environment in the Cayman Islands as such this project will be a milestone achievement for the Park and we look forward to its completion. The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is extremely grateful for the generosity of Cayman National Bank and we look forward to working together on this beneficial project for the children of our country”, says Mr. Lawrus.
