What organization do you think of when you hear “Business of the Year”? It sounds very prestigious and rightly so, and there is one organization on island that can make such a boast of having this title as of last Saturday night. Cayman National was awarded the “Best in Show” for the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence ‘Business of the Year’ Award on Saturday October 14th at the awards ceremony held at the Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman. In front of approximately 200 attendees Cayman National was presented the Business of the Year Award and was also named a Grand Award winner for the Outstanding Workforce Development Award.

In August the Chamber of Commerce voiced a call to its members to participate in their first ever Business Awards ceremony which would acknowledge and honor the businesses in the Cayman Islands that embody the best business practices, in various award categories. Cayman National decided to submit applications for the Outstanding Workforce Development Initiative and Business of the Year, and were shortlisted and named as one of the two finalists for each of those categories. The Business of the Year Award was awarded to the business who shows outstanding corporate social responsibility, has excelled in treatment and training of staff, has provided unrivaled customer service, and has proven commitment to the development of the Cayman Islands community. “We decided to make a submission in this category because it is these very factors that define who we are at Cayman National. We pride ourselves on customer service excellence, commitment to our people, underpinned with profound respect and pride in our country” says Ormond Williams, Cayman National Bank President. Cayman National boasts a 98% Caymanian staff complement and commenting on this achievement Mr. Williams stated “We actively invest in the personal and professional growth of our staff through a wide range of opportunities including full scholarships for academic and technical qualifications at local and international universities and places of higher learning along with diverse conferences for professional and networking exposure”. He said “staff who are well-trained help us deliver consistent customer service excellence and personalized service which we are proud of and we know our customers expect and appreciate. We also ensure our staff are physically and emotionally healthy by encouraging them to remain active, including valuable health information in weekly newsletters and by offering corporate gym rates”.

As the local community bank in the Cayman Islands Cayman National Bank (the largest wholly owned subsidiary in the Cayman National Group) is actively involved in the community by supporting notable and grass roots non-profit organizations, charities and other worthy organizations that fall within its key areas of focus which are the elderly, education, culture, sports and youth. “Every year we contribute significant sums money to various organizations and while most of our support is provided financially, many of our staff members through volunteerism also contribute to the improvement of the community and the well-being of our citizens that need it most” says Mr. Williams. Cayman National is a true Caymanian company with a workforce and shareholder complement that is predominantly Caymanian; we have deep roots in the community and we’ve successfully grown in tandem with the development of our islands. These awards signal that we are achieving our business objectives yet the accolades constrain us to focus on getting better at each customer contact point and interaction with key stakeholders on this journey to further solidify our presence in the Cayman Islands”. The Bank also won the most recent ‘Bank of the Year’ Award in 2016 and 3 times prior to that in 2005, 2008 and 2012 and also being the recipient of the inaugural award of Top Employer in the large business category from the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professionals (CISHRP) in 2010.

“Cayman National is proud to win these awards at the inaugural Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award ceremony and it is a privilege and honor to now hold the title of “Best in Show” for the ‘Business of the Year’ Award. We congratulate all recipients , finalists and other winners of all the awards. Most notably, we congratulate Mr. Cardinall DaCosta as the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, he is a stalwart son of the soil who has made many invaluable contributions to these islands,” comments Ormond Williams.

We cannot forget the organizers of the event and commend the work that is being done by the Chamber of Commerce. Over the years the Chamber has grown from strength to strength with strong focus on developing and educating the Caymanian workforce. This years ‘Growth Matters” economic growth education initiative and the introduction of the ‘Business Excellence Awards’ are testaments to their commitment and dedication to our community, we wish them continued growth and prosperity and applaud their efforts. "Congratulations to the management and staff of Cayman National on this well-deserved recognition. The Business Excellence Awards enables Chamber members in all industry sectors and sizes to share their best practices and to celebrate their business and community achievements. We salute Cayman National on being selected Business of the Year for 2017 and wish the management and staff continued success in the years to come” says Wil Pineau, CEO of Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce.
