Powerful Wall Street Leader Challenge Employees to 'Dare to Win'

Carla Harris, Managing Director of Morgan Stanley Investment Management in New York was the Keynote Speaker at a recent Cayman National staff event.

The event which was held at the Westin Casuarina Resort on Saturday May 22nd was Cayman National's 19th Annual Awards Banquet with an audience of almost 200 including Directors and all levels of employees.

The theme of the event was 'Dare to Win' with 45 members of staff receiving long service awards ranging from 5 to 30 years of service. In addition, 20 staff received awards in the following categories: customer satisfaction, team spirit, and leadership and initiative, with the two CEO's award recipients receiving awards for courage and exemplary academic achievements respectively.

In her Keynote address Mrs. Harris referred to her book: "Expect to Win - 10 Proven Strategies for Thriving in the Workplace" which was recently published, and her collection of 'hard-earned pearls' of wisdom which she details in her book. She reminded employees that there are always consequences as a result of the choices we make and encouraged them to be comfortable with taking risks – "experience is a gift from failure" she said. She also stressed the importance of building relationships through networking, and to leverage the 'tool chest' available through this network.

Mrs. Harris has been named one of Fortune Magazine's 50 most powerful black executives in corporate America," and to Fortune's "Most Influential List" in 2005, Black Enterprise magazine's "Top 50 African-Americans on Wall Street," and Essence magazine's list of "The 50 Women Who are Shaping the World." She was also named "Woman of the Year 2004" by the Harvard Business Men's Forum.

In commenting on the success of the event Claudia Welds, Senior Executive Corporate Communications and Event Coordinator said, "It was a pleasure to have such a dynamic and accomplished speaker as Carla Harris for this year's event. The evening was one of celebrating the successes of colleagues as well as a time for camaraderie".

Prizes were drawn at the end of the meeting which included round trip tickets for two to Las Vegas, one additional week paid vacation and a gift certificate from Priced Right valued at $300.
